I Get it Now

Each week I sit down, pants-less, and try to figure out which news story I should write about on this blog. There are always headlines of interest that revolve around who is killing who in the middle east, or which congressman sucked at his job the most over the past week (lots of competition), but even though those stories are interesting no subject is more enticing then that of Mr. Barack Obama. He storms into the White House promising bipartisanship and fiscal responsibility and within two months he has a projected 2 trillion dollar budget deficit. Yes! Score one for the good guys! This president of ours sucks. Ha ha ha. The economy will fail, our armed forces will be ill-equipped and, if we are lucky, maybe violence will break out in the streets! It will all be on his watch, and it will all be his fault and the people of the United States will cry out for a savior and guess who is gonna be their… yup, the Republican party. In 4 or possibly 8 years the Republicans will sweep back into power and… and what? The Republicans just had control for nearly 20 years and what was accomplished? Economic warning signals were ignored, the federal government continued to expand at an astounding rate, Campaign Finance Reform stomped all over free speech, the power of the presidency was vastly expanded, and civil rights were ignored as Bush authorized illegal wiretapping. I hope and pray that we never see the last 8 years as “the good old days.”

So when I criticize the Democratic party please understand that I realize that the Republicans are just as bad. However, it looks like a reformation of sorts is starting to sweep through the Republican party. Finally, the Republicans are starting to see that in order for them to win elections they will have to embody conservative principals. The problem, is that they don’t just need to convince their Republican constituency that low taxes and less government are a good idea. They also need to sell these ideas to the American people as a whole. In order to do this they are going to need a leader. Someone who can articulate these principals well enough so that the average American can understand them. Hopefully this leader will come along soon, because if he doesn’t, I’m not sure there is going to be much of an America left to rescue.
